Ava Heuer, PMP
Professional Biographical Summary

Ava Heuer is a highly respected leader in the field of project management, with expertise in process development, process tailoring, and risk management.  In addition to her 25 years experience in the corporate world, her position since 1998 as Vice President of Professional Development for the Project Management Institute (PMI) New Jersey Chapter brings a wealth of training, coaching, and mentoring experience.

Most of Ava’s professional experience has been at Alcatel-Lucent’s Bell Laboratories where she managed R&D projects related to underwater sonar systems for the U.S. Navy and later, wireless telephony.  As a manager of joint partnerships, she has worked with companies on projects ranging from 5-year multi-million dollar contracts with strict government controls, to 1-year $500,000 projects run more informally, experiencing the full spectrum of project management applications.  Her recognized expertise has fueled her reputation as a “rescue squad” for projects in trouble as she turned around projects that were on the verge of contract default to become key customer satisfiers.

Now an independent consultant with special expertise in tailoring processes to fit the size and culture of an organization, Ava has worked with such clients as Sanofi-Aventis, T-Mobile, Dialogic, and IBM.   She has also been an instructor for Boston University Corporate Education Division and has delivered project management training to professionals in various pharmaceutical, finance, telecommunications, and government agencies.  Ava is also an adjunct professor in the Graduate Division at the New Jersey Institute of Technology, an instructor in the Continuing Education Division of Pace University, and is an annual reviewer of student theses for a Scholarship Award at Stevens Institute of Technology Graduate Program in Management.  She has also developed and delivers the PMP Exam Preparation Class for PMI New Jersey.

Ava is a frequent presenter at various Project Management Symposia, speaking on topics such as “A Practical Approach to Risk Management,” “Managing a New Venture,” and “Transitioning Project Management Skills from Large Corporations to Small Companies.”

Ava holds a BS in Engineering Science from New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), an MS in Engineering Science from NJIT, a Master’s Certificate in Project Management from George Washington University, and in 1996 received the PMP Certification from PMI.  She is also a member of the National Engineering Honor Society, Tau Beta Pi.
